I have more than 20 years of experience providing fee-only wealth management to individuals and families. I have a master’s degree in personal financial planning. I have several designations after my name. That being said, these things do not define who I am. My family is the most important thing to me. I have a beautiful wife and two wonderful boys. I try to put them first in everything I do. I do not pretend to be perfect, but I try.
I love sports. I enjoy college sports more than professional, but it is mainly because I believe they play with more passion. My first love was baseball, but basketball and football are favorites now.
I also enjoy being outside, whether that is exercising, going on a hike with my family, or simply being at the playground with my boys.
My favorite hobby is playing board games. It is how I met my wife. We have a large library of games and while I don’t play as much as I would like, we still get plenty of opportunities to play (with each other or with friends). I look forward to having family game nights.
Watching one of our families (clients) do something they never thought they could do, or never knew they wanted to do. It can be transformational. We get to see firsthand how big of an impact we have in people’s lives. It starts with us listening to truly understand what is most important to them. Then, we give them clarity to know what is possible. And ultimately, we help provide them peace of mind to know that they have taken care of everything so that their true wishes are fulfilled.
I will give you my favorite three podcasts because the books change too frequently. And by books, I am much more likely to “read” them if they are on Audible. My three go-to podcasts are PTI (Pardon the Interruption; sports show so I can catch up on what is going on since our TV is more likely to have a cartoon on it); Kitces & Carl (work-related; it helps me be a better advisor); and Calm Parenting Podcast (personal; I’m trying to learn how to better interact with my strong-willed children).
Why. I love to understand why things work the way they do. I love to understand why people do what they do. Too often people do things because they “are supposed to”. I don’t believe in that. You do you and stop worrying about what others think about it.
The value of hard work. I was raised in middle Georgia in a middle-class family with two working parents (who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary). I learned the value of hard work from watching them and I knew that I would need to work harder than those around me to succeed. So, I began to simply “outwork” everyone around me. I was never the best athlete, but I was co-captain of my high school baseball team. I was never the smartest student, but I was valedictorian of my high school.
There are a lot of things I enjoy doing, but playing board games is probably what I enjoy doing most. I met my wife playing boardgames and we go to a lot of gaming events. As my boys get older, I hope the 4 of us can have regular game nights.
The local teams (Braves, Falcons, Hawks, Georgia Tech, or any team playing Georgia). I mostly enjoy watching college basketball and college football, but with young children, I don’t watch as much sports as I used to.
Sushi (salmon, tuna, and eel). But for those who really know me, they know I would take a pill every day if I could get all of my nutritional content without having the hassle of preparing food, eating it, and then cleaning up!
A letter. I don’t need, or want, things. I love handwritten letters. It doesn’t have to be about anything specific. It can be whatever you want to say to me. I treasure them.
Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Gandhi. It should be some interesting conversations!
